The Divine Heart Newsletter Spring 2009
Is it
spring already? After this wild and
crazy winter, it is great to see the sun starting to come out and the flowers
popping up all over the place. There are lots of things happening each day to
continue the flow into joy and abundance. My choice each day is to open my heart
to each new experience and embrace all rhythms.
Just
a few weeks ago my dad got unexpectedly engaged, and within a week he remarried.
With this new experience, I felt many feelings I did not think I would
feel this lifetime. This certainly
has been an opportunity to feel and truly open my heart.
My dad’s joy is very authentic and after a time to process what was
happening, I allowed myself be a part of the wedding and truly contribute my
heart and light to it. Things
are really speeding up now. This is
a time of truly embracing the new.
After
the wedding I found out that my sister, her family, and my dad and his new wife
were all going to Kauai for a celebration. With
plenty of support from my girlfriend Sandy and my sister, it was not long before
Sandy and I were joining them in Kauai. I
am still in shock. We
all had a wonderful time. This was
an amazing opportunity for expansion into deeper levels of joy, happiness, and
celebration.
For
those of you who like stories; here is a special story about my trip:
I was
lying in bed before our plane took off for Kauai and I was sad and a bit worried
about the trip. For many reasons, I
did not have a good time in Hawaii the last time I went, twenty years ago, and
the old memories were coming up to be cleared.
As I
worked through some memories, I felt a huge pressure in my left ankle.
I quickly scanned my energy fields to see what the energy dynamic was.
Then I heard a voice telling me to get up and go to the store and get a
scuba mask with my prescription lenses in it.
I did
not have the time or the money to do this, but the energy was insistent.
I asked why it was so adamant about me getting the mask right now.
A strange voice answered, "You need to have prescription lenses to
see me underwater!" As I heard this, I knew it was a sea turtle.
I was
a bit hesitant. I didn’t really
know if I believed this voice was authentic, but I didn’t argue.
(I don’t really worry about how real the voices are anymore, I simply
listen to what I get, respect whatever comes up, and then follow my heart.)
Later in the day, I spoke with Sandy about this and she agreed with the
sea turtle. At last minute we found
a place in the city that was able to make the prescription dive mask just in
time. Sandy gave me the mask as a
treat and we were off to Kauai. We
went on some amazing hikes in Kauai, drove to all the main tourist sites, and
then after snorkeling all of the spots that I had on my list, I wondered why I
had no luck finding a sea turtle. I finally let go and went on to
enjoy my time with loved ones. Toward
the end of the trip, I got a sudden vision to head for an area of reef that I
noticed days earlier. It had a deep channel that intrigued me. It
took a while to get there, but it was worth it. After a while sunning
ourselves on the beach, we were looking for shells when suddenly a sea
turtle popped up out of the water, far out in the bay, near the breaking surf.
Within
moments, I told Sandy, my dad, and his new wife Bonnie, that I had to swim out
to see if I could find him. They
were worried, since it was a deep area on the reef with a powerful tide rip
going out to sea. I felt a sense of
adrenaline pulsating within me and also a great sense of mystery and
anticipation at the possibility of actually seeing the sea turtle underwater.
I grabbed my fins and my prescription mask and dove into the bay and
began to snorkel over the sharp coral reef out to where I saw the turtle pop up.
As I
swam, I hoped it would wait for me before moving on.
I hoped I could find it. I
hoped I would not get caught up in the current and get swept out into the giant
breakers crashing over the outer reef. I
paddled with great intensity, gasping air through my snorkel as my heart pounded
and my mind raced. I traveled a few
hundred yards when I soon felt the current begin to pick up and carry me into
the deep area where the coral reefs became a unique channel of dark underwater
cliff formation and deep blue ocean. I
ignored the lone yellow tang, scooted through a school of clear white jacks,
continued past an exotic puffer fish, glided around a group of colorful trigger
fish and then just as the current began to accelerate its pull on me, I flowed
through a small channel and came up over a shallow reef.
Then my hand simply reached out and grabbed a chunk of coral and pulled
me to a stop. “What
I was doing?” I wondered. I just
sat there motionless, with the current trying to break me from rest, but my hand
was solid and firm. The sharp coral
cut into my fingers where I gripped on tight.
I tried to swallow repeatedly to get moisture into my dry throat when
suddenly I noticed I was right on the edge of an underwater cliff…and just
over the edge of the reef, was a giant sea turtle.
It was less than a foot from me.
This
massive being was just floating there in the lee of the current.
It was not horizontal like you would expect.
It was floating straight up vertical, with its head sticking out as if to
meet me as I came over the ledge. Its head was as big as mine.
Its body was as big as mine. It
was huge. We were face to
face, and I was looking right into its eyes. In
shock, I gripped the coral with all my might so I would not flow into it.
I just hovered there against the current on the top of the reef and it
just hovered there in lee of the current just staring back at me.
There was no emotion. It was
not like looking in the face of a dog that greets you when you come home from
work. This face was ancient, stoic,
and unassuming. This being was big,
beautiful, and colorful, with deep maroon facial markings, a green shell, and a
yellow/green body. It was calm and peaceful. I could do nothing but
simply admire it. Time
seemed to stand still. Then suddenly the magnificent being rose up
into the current and began to drift away from me.
It flipped sideways, like a jumbo jet making a graceful turn in an
open blue sky, and then it allowed the current to carry it away into the depths
of the deep channel behind it. With
my hand stinging from the coral cuts, I released my grip without hesitation and
allowed the current to sweep me over the ledge into the depths. As
the current carried us both out to sea, I felt no fear.
My only concern was that I might not see this magical being again.
I swam like crazy, trying to catch up.
I could see him in front of me, then I lost him, and then I saw him
gliding down into the depths ahead. I
took a few deep breaths and I dove down to reach him.
My
ears stabbed with sharp pain and I quickly pinched my nose to equalize the
pressure. Then I continued down to where he was floating.
This time, I could see him just hovering at middle depth.
My lungs were not in shape for extended stays at this depth.
Just as I got to him I had to go back up and get more air.
When
I went back down, he was gone. When
I went back up, I realized I was in the middle of the deep channel, in the
middle of the current, hundreds of yards from shore, all by myself.
I did
not panic. I simply wanted to find
my giant new friend. I opened my
entire energy fields to the experience and I allowed myself to deeply tune in.
I felt the energy currents like holograms teaching me the dance of liquid
energies in motion. I allowed the
information to sink fully in and then I sank into the depths and allowed the
currents to take me further out. As
I went with the flow, I sensed a cross current.
I allowed that current to propel me behind a unique ledge to rest.
Within moments I then darted out into the current, took a deep breath and
dove down. Scanning all directions,
I then shot across two smaller channels until I found another underwater eddy
where I was guided to come up for air and rest.
I
continued on, through many different areas of the reef in my search.
I went through the smaller channels and then the deep channel one more
time. I spotted the giant sea turtle once again, but I could not get down
deep enough to reach him. Then he
disappeared again. I
could feel my time with this amazing being was coming to an end, and I allowed
myself to reflect for a moment. Then I realized that I was learning to
dance and play and be with the flows of this magnificent ocean.
I was truly at one. I was in
harmony with the dance. All my senses were engaged and exuberant.
I was alive! Filled
with adventure and mystery, play and adrenaline, I soon began to forget about
the sea turtle. I began to dance
with all the fish: the long green trumpet fish, the tiny little box fish, the
beautiful magnificent coral formations, the three long coronet fish, and all the
fish everywhere. I
began to dive down and explore each cavern, each nook and each cranny in the
different reef formations. I swam
deep. I swam upside down exploring
the underside of the coral walls. I
dove deep into dark holes looking for moray eels.
I dove and swam. I swam and
dove until I was exhausted and I knew it was time for me to go back to shore.
I am
forever grateful for that sea turtle, its wonderful energy, and the magic of the
sea. I feel like I have been
reconnected to a new level of being alive. I am
forever grateful for all these wonderful new experiences that are continuing to
unfold as I open more to life, accept and embrace the rhythms of what is, and
celebrate the divine essence within each of us. Peace
and blessings to you all, Joe
